'That was the target' - Pin delighted to reclaim Drivers' Standings lead after 'intelligent' Montreal weekend

Doriane Pin might not have stood on the top step on Sunday, but the Mercedes driver was the big winner in Montreal as she regained the lead of the Drivers’ Standings. As her nearest rival Maya Weug was hampered with technical issues, Pin took full advantage. Winning Race 1 after contact between leaders Chloe Chambers and Alisha Palmowski took them out of contention and scoring another podium in Race 3, Pin’s 46-point haul puts her 20 points clear of Chambers with Weug demoted to third.Delighted to have achieved her pre-weekend aim of reclaiming the lead, Pin is confident that the momentum will carry forward to the next round in Zandvoort after the summer break.“The weekend was very positive for us because we scored quite good points for the Standings,” she said. “We are leading the Standings right now and it is great because that was the target. I think compared to the two contenders we are fighting with for the title, we were the one that did no mistakes, scored the maximum points and the faster overall in the weekend. “This is positive for us and for the rest of the season. We know that we have everything to do good, so I’m keeping working on myself and with my team to go to Zandvoort and do the same.”Race 1 marked Pin's third win of the year after victories in Shanghai Race 2 and Miami Race 1However, her second podium of the weekend almost disappeared before her eyes. Contact between Palmowski and McLaren’s Ella Lloyd sent the Red Bull Racing driver straight into Pin’s path.Concerned about damage after a hefty whack to her front wing, Pin admits it was a relief that losing two places was the only setback she suffered at the time. This move was out of our control, they were touching each other in front of me and I couldn’t avoid anything.“So, I asked the team to check my front wing when I passed the starting grid in front of the pit lane. Nothing was damaged, luckily! “Race 2 was a bit of the same. I had a few contacts during the race and always by chance, it was good for us because we always stayed on track. I think we were more intelligent than the others. We controlled this quite well and we scored the points, so it’s good.”
